In Italian cuisine, the tomato is indispensable. The Italians know many types and sizes of tomatoes. Each type of tomato is suitable for a different dish. The San Marzano tomato is an elongated tomato and very suitable for making tomato sauce because the tomato has firm flesh and is nice and sweet. You can therefore let the San Marzano tomatoes simmer for a long time for a delicious full and slightly sweet tomato sauce. You use this tomato sauce as a base for pasta sauce and as a base on the pizza.
